Meet Jack

Updated: Dec 9, 2022

Hello! I am so glad you are here! My name is Jackson, but you can call me Jack. I am a life coach and licensed therapist (in Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Illinois) and I specialize in working with individuals who identify as gender diverse or gender non-conforming (Transgender, Non-Binary, Gender Queer/fluid, etc). I offer individual counseling, life coaching, and gender related care via a virtual platform.

Here are some common questions I am often asked...I hope you find the information helpful!

Are you Gender Variant?

Yes, I am! I was assigned female at birth and transitioned to male several years ago; however, as my identity has evolved overtime, I now identify as Non-Binary, Masc-Presenting or Transmasculine. I have also changed my pronouns to they|them. A lot of people still use he|him for me - and that's okay (I am pretty open when it comes to pronouns)! I have utilized medically transition steps such as HRT (testosterone) and top-surgery. I believe wholeheartedly that walking in my true self and being open to my gender evolution was absolutely the best decision I ever made.

Where are you from, where did you go to school, and what are your qualifications?

I am originally from a very small town in southern Indiana, but spent the majority of my adult life in Indianapolis, IN. I lived in Tennessee for around 5 years and then resettled back in Indianapolis in 2020. I obtained my bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University and my graduate degree from Indiana University Purdue University of Indianapolis in 2004. I have been working with LGBTQI+ folks in many different capacities for 20 years.

I am a member of WPATH (World Professional Association of Transgender Health) and follow the current standards of care. I have a specialized working knowledge, both personal and professional, of gender transitions and issues surrounding gender that is not often found in the therapy world. I am a licensed clinical therapist (LCSW) and am licensed in the states of Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Illinois.

I am also well-versed in HRT and surgery referral letters and have written hundreds of letters over the years for insurance approval as so my clients can pursue medical transition steps.

What kind of therapist and life coach are you?

I am relaxed, down-to-earth, and relatable. It is important to me that you are comfortable, so I prefer a relaxed atmosphere where we can do real work together without the traditional, uncomfortable, or stuffy environment of many therapist offices. I have a holistic and eclectic approach, which means our work together, will be as individualized as you are unique. I will draw from many different perspectives to address your individual concerns and needs.

It is my belief that all people hold everything they need inside of themselves to live a whole and joy-filled life. I do not believe anyone needs “fixed.” Therefore, we will not be focusing on what you need to “fix” or “change” in your life, but instead we will spend most of our time focusing on what’s going right and figuring out how to get more of what you want in your life. You will get excited. Feel freer. Feel more at peace and very likely feel more authentic than you ever have before as you move toward awakening your inner strength and your true self.

I want to note that although I am a huge advocate for therapy and life coaching (I love my therapist!), I do not believe that therapy is a prerequisite for taking medical transition steps. If you are desiring to access me for a referral letter only, I want you to know that I support your decision and we can work together to get your letter written in just one session!

Who do you work with? What do people normally come to you to discuss?

I primarily work with individuals who identify as gender variant and we often discuss topics related to dysphoria, relationships and family, coming out, transition decisions, and many other topics related to gender as well as general life struggles.

We often work on wide range of other topics outside of gender. Here is a list of common life topics that are often discussed:

Life Changes and Transitions

Simplifying one’s life and mind

Anxiety and Stress, Worry, and Fear

Relaxation techniques and strategies

Feelings of Shame

Feeling Stuck and goal setting

Depression and emotional overwhelm

Finding your inner voice and truth

Do I have to be Transgender to work with you?

Nope! I work with a wide variety of people, a few of which are our cis-gender and straight identified friends, but I do specialize in gender and most of my folx self-identity as gender diverse in some way!

Where are you located?

My virtual office is located on your phone, tablet, or computer! (Convenient, right?!)

All Session are held on a HIPAA compliant version of Zoom.

What services do you offer?

I offer individual therapy/counseling and life coaching - all online. Quite frequently, I am also requested to meet with my client along with their partners, parents, and/or other family members. This is most often to discuss relationship dynamics and to assist with education around gender and helping my clients to feel seen and understood by their loved ones.

I offer transition related referrals to those seeking letters to move forward with gender related medical procedures (such as HRT, top-surgery, bottom surgery, etc.).

What is the process for obtaining a referral letter from you?

Generally, it takes just one session to collect the required information in order for me to write the letter. I write all letters under an informed consent assessment model, which means NO gate-keeping of any kind. I also do not charge ‘extra’ for the writing of your letter as I consider this to be part of your session fees.

What are your fees? Do you accept insurance?

I am a private pay therapist and life coach, meaning I do not accept insurance; however, your insurance company may consider me to be an out-of-network provider (for therapy, not coaching) and may provide you with reimbursement for your fees. If so, I can provide receipts and documentation that you can submit, if your insurance plan offers that option.

My fee for a 50-minute therapy or life coaching session is $125.00.

How do people submit payment to you?

You can pay with debit or credit cards or your health savings/flex account via my secure client portal.

How do we meet since all your services are online?

Once you reach out to me, I will send an email with instructions on how to access my secure client portal. This client portal is confidential and is HIPAA compliant. You will be provided a temporary password/username to access the portal and will be prompted to enter some demographic information as well as electronically sign some required forms. Once your account is completed, you will have access to my calendar to self-schedule for days/times that work for you!

Our sessions will be held on a secure, HIPAA compliant version of Zoom.
